The Buffy Factor
This blog is a place to post the views/opinions/theories behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's beyond just talking about plot and favorites of the show. Even looking into the symbology & parallels even between the Buffy universe and the real world.

The Blogger: I've been watching Buffy for almost over 10 years now and could honestly say I am a Buffy enthusiast. A lot of times my mind tends to go into overdrive of thinking when I have nothing better to do and it's default thinking process is to break down the Buffy world. What everything mean, characters...all that fun stuff. I don't think my interest in critical thinking helps. Personally I will never try to be unknowingly biased as far as characters and pairings go. I do state things that I love/favor but I try not to let that influence too much. I'm a big spuffy fan so ultimately I've looked into that pairing much more.

#what I love about this isn’t that she hits him #or that she catches him off guard and manages to defend herself or any of that #what I really love about this is that it would be so easy #to play this scene as funny #because we know that Buffy has inhuman strength and that this guy’s gonna get his butt handed to him #and that could be funny #and completely ruin the seriousness of the fact that he’s trying to rape her #he clearly doesn’t see it that way #but obviously from his actions he’s not overly concerned with what she wants so #but anyway if you look at her face in the last one #that isn’t a triumphant ‘haha you thought I was a weak girl when really I can beat you up’#that’s a ‘you sicken me because if it were anyone else with you in this car what would you have done to her?’ #and because it’s Buffy #who’s used to defending herself against much stronger people #of course she’s able to fight back #but really #if it had been anyone else #even someone like Cordelia#how would that have turned out? #and that’s the expression I read on her face here #she’s looking at him and thinking about what he would have done to some other girl #and I just #love this show #okay #strong like an amazon

Joss Whedon talks about the idea of “found family” a lot as opposed to blood family. And I’ve always believed family is really important. But more important than anything, I’ve always thought that it was important to create your own family. And even so, that could very well include blood-related family members. But, find the people who will stick around. The relationship that builds between Buffy and Giles is just amazing. He becomes her father figure. And who on earth doesn’t want the kind of friendship that Xander, Willow and Buffy has? And look at how they welcome Tara into the group because of Willow. That’s family. And the bonds that you make with the family you build will always be stronger than anything.

What is “Buffy the vampire slayer” ?

2.=>  those characters that we saw growing up , that we related to , cried and smiled with , we witnessed their journey becoming better person and realizing things that they thought it was impossible. Heroes.

“I designed Buffy to be an icon, to be an emotional experience, to be loved in a way that other shows can’t be loved. Because it’s about adolescence, which is the most important thing people go through in their development, becoming an adult. And it mythologizes it in such a way, such a romantic way-it basically says, ‘Everybody who made it through adolescence is a hero.’ And I think that’s very personal, that people get something from that that’s very real.” (x)

There is something about these two smiles. I haven’t been able to stop comparing them. For Aspen(I refuse to refer to her as anything else), this is the start of something incredible. For Buffy, it’s the start of a whole new chapter. This is a look of hope. A realization that a change is happening right now. It’s a smile for all the things that might be possible from this moment on. For both of them. It’s the start of a journey and the end of a journey.

These are the smiles of a new beginning.

dearestclaudio said: Thank you for that response, of the two I've received so far yours was the politely worded one. I've accepted that I misread the episode, but I've developed a stance that, as a plot twist, that scene is very dull, and would have been more interesting if it were in fact not Spike's intention to get his soul in the first place. But that's just my opinion.

Honestly I agree! I feel it would have been a far more interesting season 7 if he had come back with no soul, and no chip and still fought with Buffy, I think it would have made his death at the end far more meaningful and put more stance behind rehabilitation.

And before I too believed that he went for the chip and got stuck with a soul and was researching for a different post that I was writing for this blog before I stumbled upon the essay.
